Composer-Arranger Competition

The winning selection of music will be featured in our April 2026 concert, Reimagined, hosted in St. Catharines, Ontario.
Avanti Singers, based in the Niagara region, Ontario, is pleased to announce a national Composer-Arranger Competition in celebration of the 2025–2026 season.
We welcome choral arrangements or adaptations of music from any style, genre, or era, and are especially interested in creative submissions that move beyond simple transcriptions or generic pop treatments to transform the original material through harmony, texture, form, style, or concept.
The winning selection will be featured in our April 2026 concert, Reimagined, a program dedicated to fresh takes on existing musical works from the medieval to the modern.
Award:
- A cash award of $1,000
- A premiere performance by Avanti Singers in April 2026
- A professional-quality recording of the performance
Guidelines:
- An arrangement of an existing piece, with clear evidence of creative transformation.
- Scored for SATB, with or without accompaniment.
- Length: 3–5 minutes.
- The arrangement must not have been published, publicly performed, recorded, or commissioned prior to submission.
- Avanti will give the premiere performance of the piece.
- Source material must either be in the public domain or have appropriate rights secured by the composer.
- Open to Canadian citizens or permanent residents of any age or career stage.
- Score submissions are to be in the form of a digital PDF. The name of the arranger should not appear on the score.
- Audio (MIDI or mock-up) is optional but encouraged.
There is no submission fee.
Submission Deadline: December 1, 2025. The winner will be notified by January 31, 2026
