BILP 2027 - Call for curators

Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf
The exhibition will take place over the summer of 2027 in Deschambault-Grondines (Portneuf region, Quebec). The curator must be able to come see the exhibition venues and be present during the installation of the exhibition (May-June 2027).
The Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf is calling for professional exhibition curators to design the exhibition that will be presented as part of its twelfth edition, from June to October 2027.
About
Every two years, the Biennale internationale du lin de Portneuf (BILP) presents a multidisciplinary artistic event featuring original works that highlight linen or flax in both material and conceptual terms. Deeply rooted in its territory, the BILP presents its exhibitions in heritage sites that are emblematic of the region.
Mandate
The curator will be responsible for tasks related to the design and production of the main exhibition for the twelfth edition of the BILP:
- Developing the theme of the event.
- Selecting the artists and works (between 15 and 20) to be presented in the main exhibition at the BILP.
- Setting up the exhibition space for all the works.
- Supporting the artists in the realization of their projects.
- Drafting the exhibition presentation text and individual labels for each of the works on display.
- Possible collaboration in designing a programme of artistic and cultural mediation activities.
The curator undertakes to visit the exhibition venues to familiarise themselves with the spaces and their potential. They must be present during the installation of the exhibition (May and June 2027) and at its opening (date to be determined). They must be available to give interviews, if necessary.
The curator is responsible for selecting the artists and works. This selection is subject to approval by the artistic steering committee for financial, technical or logistical reasons.
Conditions
The fee for the curatorial mandate is $ 15,000 (CAD), plus taxes. A duo or collective may apply, but the fee is fixed.
Application process
Interested candidates should submit their application by email to [email protected] by October 31, 2025.
A complete application must include:
- A letter of interest (maximum one page).
- A short biography and curatorial approach (maximum one page).
- Images and descriptions of completed or ongoing curatorial projects (between one to three projects).
- A preliminary exhibition project: a proposal of no more than two pages describing the vision, theme or direction envisaged and, if desired, a list of prospective artists. The proposal must consider the specific characteristics of the venue, regional realities and the direction of the event.
- A press kit (optional).
Selection criteria
The curator must demonstrate competence in the design and implementation of at least one curatorial activity in a professional context. The main factors considered during the selection process are as follows:
- The curator's experience.
- The diversity of artistic practices explored by the curator.
- The relevance, consistency and originality of the proposal.
- The potential contribution to the BILP's influence and visibility.
Note: Given the heritage nature of the venues and the diversity of visitors expected to attend the exhibition, the BILP organisers attach great importance to making the accompanying texts accessible to all and raising visitors' awareness of the various contemporary artistic practices on display.
