Young People's Theatre (YPT) is currently searching for candidates to fill the seasonal on-site position of the Summer Drama Camp Instructor-Assistant, reporting to the Drama School Manager. The position provides an individual with career-related work experience, and will expand their capacity as an arts education professional. The role offers opportunities for the development of educational skills such as teaching drama and incorporating theatre arts into teaching. The Instructor-Assistant will gain experience working with children, youth and their parents, as well as professional arts educators.
This is a Canada Summer Jobs position commencing on June 30 and ending on August 22, 2025. This position pays $17.50/hour for 35 hours a week.
The successful candidate must attend the one-day orientation session in late June 2025.
This position is entirely on-site and will be based at 165 Front St E. and 161 Frederick St. in Toronto, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
• Observe and assist the primary instructors in facilitating the drama camps
• Structure and develop lessons in consultation with the primary instructor
• Assist in the creation and execution of the final performances at the end of each camp
• On a rotating schedule with other summer staff, supervise campers during the extended hours session after the end of camp each day
Required Qualifications and Skills:
• Experience/training in arts education/theatre
• Experience working with children ages 4-17
• Strong communication skills
• Strong team player
• Positive, pro-active and personable
Eligibility
To be eligible to participate in Canada Summer Jobs, individuals must:
• be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and
• have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
