Rhythm Dialogues: “Emotional Cartography of Place”
Outside the March & Rhythm Dialogues
Housed in a redesigned 1974 Airstream trailer — the residency has the ability to travel to a Canadian location of each artist’s choosing. Guided by the 2026 theme of emotional cartography, Rhythm Dialogues invites artists to respond to the emotional, cultural, and ecological contours of place.
ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
Rhythm Dialogues — is a new platform for creative exchange. We are seeking individuals to apply to a form-breaking artist residency program. Working at the intersection of multiple art forms, Rhythm Dialogues seeks to create space for artists to transcend creative boundaries through open- ended experimentation.
Rhythm Dialogues is a multi-faceted project that includes:
• A redesigned 1974 Airstream that serves as a residency and mobile lab
• A series of convergences between artists, their work, land and community
Through an interdisciplinary approach, Rhythm Dialogues provides space for uncertainty and complexity — inviting exchange, immersion, and charting us towards possible futures.
MORE DETAILS
Timing: June–September 2026
Duration: 1–4 weeks
Location: Sites across Canada
Open to artists working across any creative disciplines: performance, writing, dance, music, film, theatre, interdisciplinary or hybrid forms, this initiative seeks to create space for individuals to transcend creative boundaries through experimentation.
Prioritizing exploration over outcome, the residency does not need to culminate in a specific work or output — instead seeking to create a cross-country chain of artistic resonance.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
Canadian artists, working across any creative discipline, who are innately curious, experimental in approach, and are seeking to expand the boundaries
of their practice.
Selected artists will:
• Spend 1–4 weeks in the Airstream in a Canadian location of their choice (three options proposed, final location confirmed with organizers)
• Receive a constraint or prompt from the previous artist to commence their creative inquiry
• Leave behind a constraint or prompt for the next artist
• Take part in a brief overlap moment and handoff with incoming artist
• Engage the local community and landscape
• Contribute materials to Editions, the long-term Rhythm Dialogues archive
* Given the close quarters of the Airstream, this call is limited to solo artists, couples, or very close collaborators applying for 1 residency
