Based on the structure and format of classical Greek tragedy, Blackhorse is a love story set against the backdrop of the oil fields. Featuring a chorus of six actors, six horses, six teamsters and four musicians, Blackhorse is a highly poetic re-framing of our most urgent socio/economic dilemmas - our reliance on fossil fuels.
Contract dates: June 14 – August 7, with a potential holdover to August 14, 2022
We are looking to cast three roles for this production: two male, one female. These roles will require choral movement and singing, as well as a willingness to work adjacent to horses (though experience with horses is not required). Company members participate in some weekly communal activities such as dish duty and such, so a willingness to live in a rustic environment, in a semi communal way, is vital.
For the audition: By April 8th, can you please email a self tape with two components:
A song of your choosing - something you love, that you feel best expresses your musical strengths and preferences, and one minute in which you share a little bit about yourself and your theatrical interests.
Your tape will be viewed by Blackhorse Director Estelle Shook and Musical Director Marguerite Witvoet. We will respond to you by no later than April 13th, if not before.
At Caravan Farm Theatre we value community, belonging and collaboration, and are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, equitable environment. We seek to reflect the diversity of our community and our country in our work, both onstage and off, and we encourage applications from equity-seeking groups, including those who identify as Indigenous, Black, People of Colour, Transgender, Nonbinary, Queer, Disabled and intersections of those identities. We recognize that as a rural based company there may be barriers, both experienced and perceived, to applying, and we ask that you reach out to us directly if this is so. In addition to the DOT weekly rates, we work a five day week for our four week rehearsal period. We provide room (a cabin or canvas wall tent) and board (excellent prepared meals). Children are welcome to be in residence with their families. Caravan Farm Theatre is the theatre artists' country home.
