The Parallel Project (TPP) is a monologue writing workshop by and for IBPOC emerging artists based on the traditional & unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. This program started in 2020 with the goal of supporting the IBPOC artistic community by offering a platform through which we can develop and celebrate our stories. The workshop has two goals: 1) To offer professional development to IBPOC playwrights in a space specifically created for the IBPOC community, and 2) To curate a collection of monologues for IBPOC actors. In May 2026, The Parallel Project’s first collection of 22 monologues for IBPOC and racialized artists was published by Playwrights Canada Press.

Now in its seventh year, The Parallel Project is commissioning four new monologues written by four emerging IBPOC playwrights. The 7-week writing workshop includes one-on-one mentorship with a local professional dramaturg, group writing sessions, a workshop with an actor, and two public readings of the new pieces at The Cultch’s C-Lab in October. TPP is produced by Momentum 180 in partnership with The Cultch, with support from the City of Vancouver and Playwrights Theatre Centre.
