Auditions for Old Wicked Songs by Jon Marans
The Darke Hall Society will be producing Old Wicked Songs in the summer of 2023. Nominated for the 1996 Pulitzer Prize, Jon Marans’ beautiful and powerful play has as it’s central motif Robert Schumann’s song cycle, Dichterliebe. While not a musical, Old Wicked Songs requires both actors to play the piano and sing.
We are casting the character of Stephen Hoffman, a 25-year-old American piano prodigy. The actor playing the role will be an excellent pianist, tenor singer, and actor.
The first step in the audition process will be a video recording of the artist playing the piano.
1) From Schumann Dichterliebe (Peters Edition): Song XVI "Andante espressivo" solo piano.
2) Performer's choice of pieces by Bach, Beethoven and/or Liszt.
No more than 15 minutes total playing time required. Please send videos as a link rather than an attachment.
Please submit your tape to Ruth Smillie ([email protected]) by December 15, 2022. We look forward to hearing from you.
