Seeking individual with experience in accessibility programming. The Accessibility Coordinator will be responsible for the Stratford Festival accessibility initiatives and supporting the overall initiatives of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion department.
Reporting to the Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion or designate, the Accessibility Coordinator will be
responsible for the Stratford Festival accessibility initiatives and supporting the overall initiatives of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion department.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate accessibility programming needs for Stratford Festival productions.
- Coordinate compliance with requirements as outlined in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and other relevant legislation.
- Coordinate the Stratford Festival’s Accessibility Committee. Tasks include scheduling meetings, setting agendas, tracking action items and taking minutes.
- Review legislation, standards and trends in accessibility and determine their applicability to the Stratford Festival’s accessibility operations.
- Research and make recommendations about adaptive technology solutions for providing increased accessibility for hard of hearing and d/Deaf audiences.
- Support patron accessibility needs and improvements.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external contractors to schedule, book and execute audio described performances, American Sign Language performances, open captioned performances, relaxed performances etc.
- Assist the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Manager with coordinating pre-rehearsal orientations (PRO).
- Collect data, conduct assessment, and prepare reports for accessibility initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Human Resource department to recommend workplace accommodations and policy updates.
- Recommend and coordinate accessibility training for entire organization.
- Work with IT/Communications to ensure WCAG 2.0 AA compliance for all web communication
Qualifications:
- Applicable training or equivalent education in accessibility.
- Knowledge and understanding of the AODA & Ontario Human Rights Code.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an administrative capacity preferably within a theatre, education or non-profit setting.
- Passion for and foundational knowledge about accessibility, and inclusion concepts like intersectionality required.
- Demonstrated understanding of models of disability.
- Experience providing accommodations for people with disabilities.
- High emotional intelligence and ability to triage sensitive situations.
- Excellent active listening skills.
- Flexibility with work schedule; sometimes working in evenings and on weekends. Well-organized, detail-oriented, goal-driven and confirmed ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with a positive attitude, meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
- Must be self-motivated.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
This full time contract position is located in Stratford, Ontario and will begin as soon as possible.
This position may be performed remotely, but some onsite work in Stratford, Ontario will be required for
project completion.
